The table below outlines a generic 6 week base period (start of the training season) training plan that can be used for any distance triathlon for a beginner or intermediate athlete.  The key to keep in mind is how the training is mixed on a daily basis.  This training chart can be used for off season or in season training, however it will only be beneficial for the first ¼ of your year’s cycle of training.

The distance/duration of your race will drive the distances and times of your training.  If your races are sprints or Olympic distance events then your training distances and times need to be shorter but of higher intensity than that of an Iron man or ½ Ironman race which would include longer training times and distances but of lower intensity.

The key to successfully completing a triathlon event is to train consistently with a plan that focuses on your weaknesses and maintains your strengths.  For detailed plans and strategies you can down load one of the plans Brian and his coach have developed below!

-------------------------------------------

The Base Period is a period of the training year where the athlete may be coming off a period of active rest from the previous year and also can be used after a rest period right after an in season peak.   The focus of the base period is to rebuild and build on the previous years aerobic endurance and usually lasts 12-14 weeks long
